NEW DELHI: India’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who has retired from the shortest format of the game, responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s praise after Team India‘s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit expressed gratitude on social media, appreciating the encouragement and acknowledging the joy the triumph brought to the nation.
India secured their second T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by seven runs in the summit clash in Barbados on Saturday.

Following India’s victory, PM Modi called the team to congratulate them. He praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership and impressive T20 career. The Prime Minister also commended Virat Kohli for his significant 76-run contribution in the final match and his overall impact on Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma thanked PM Modi through a post on the social media platform X: “Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The team and I are very proud to be able to bring the cup home and are truly touched by how much happiness it has brought everyone back home.”

On Sunday, PM Modi had specifically addressed Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in a separate post, stating: “Dear @ImRo45 You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy has given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today.”

Among the players recognized, Virat Kohli’s performance was highlighted. PM Modi wrote: “Dear @imVkohli, Glad to have spoken to you. Like the innings in the Finals, you have anchored Indian batting splendidly. You’ve shone in all forms of the game. T20 Cricket will miss you but I am confident you’ll continue to motivate the new generation of players.”

In addition to celebrating the players, PM Modi expressed gratitude to Rahul Dravid for his impactful coaching career, which concluded with the end of the T20 World Cup.
“Rahul Dravid’s incredible coaching journey has shaped the success of Indian cricket. His unwavering dedication, strategic insights, and nurturing the right talent have transformed the team. India is grateful to him for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are happy to see him lift the World Cup. Happy to have congratulated him,” PM Modi wrote in another post on X.

The entire nation celebrated India’s T20 World Cup win, appreciating the collective effort of the players and coaching staff.
