The India women’s national field hockey team will tour Australia from May 21 to June 3 as part of its build-up to the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup, scheduled to be held in Auckland from June 15 to 21.
India will play four matches at the Perth Hockey Stadium between May 26 and 30. The first two matches, on May 26 and 27, will begin at 5 PM IST, while the remaining fixtures on May 29 and 30 are scheduled for 11 AM IST.
Following the Australia leg, the Indian team will travel to New Zealand for practice matches ahead of the Nations Cup.
India heads into the tour after a positive outing in Argentina earlier this year, where the side won two of its four matches. Since returning, the squad has been training at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru with focus on sharpening key areas before a busy international season.
The tour will also feature a specialised drag-flick training clinic for Indian players under Dutch legend Taeke Taekema. The programme will run from May 26 to June 21 across Perth and Auckland.
Chief coach Sjoerd Marijne said the matches would help the side assess its progress and adapt to conditions similar to New Zealand before the Nations Cup.
