Shubham fires final-round 64 to win Coal India Open 2026

Shubham Jaglan rode on his final-round six-under 64 to secure his maiden professional title by two shots at the ₹1 crore Coal India Open on the par-70 Tollygunge Club course on Friday.

In a rain-curtailed 54-hole affair, the 21-year-old from Panipat totalled 14-under 196 to collect ₹15 lakh and climb 12 places to be 14th on the DP World PGTI Order of Merit (OoM).

Backed by his father-cum-caddie Jagpal, Shubham, who was tied-fifth overnight, kept his cool despite dropping a shot at the start. He recovered well to finish with an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys to erase a four-shot deficit.

Shubham, who hit the headlines for his exploits as a junior golfer a decade ago and then graduated from the University of South Florida, banked on his experience of American college golf to adopt an attacking approach and gain a shot on the 18th.

“I was nervous over the last few holes. I’m proud of the way I finished,” said Jaglan, coming from a family of wrestlers.

Jamal Hossain was runner-up with 198. OoM leader Saptak Talwar (67, 65, 70) finished joint-11th.

Ridhima holds off Mannat to win 12th Leg of WPG Tour

Ridhima Dilawari managed to hold off a surging Mannat Brar on the back nine to win her fourth title on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Prestige Golfshire in Bengaluru.

The seasoned Ridhima shot 4-under 68 for her third straight under-par round following 67-71 on the first two days of the 12th Leg of the 2026 season.

Ridhima’s total of 10-under 206 saw her finish one shot ahead of Mannat (66), who brought home the best card of the week and totalled 9-under 207. Mannat’s 66 had seven birdies against one bogey.

Ridhima’s earlier wins this season came at Leg 2 at Kalhaar Blues & Greens, Leg 4 at Poona Golf Club and Leg 6 at Jaypee Wishtown, Noida. Ridhima has also been runner-up twice this season.

Pranavi Urs improves in Swiss Ladies Open

Indian golfer Pranavi Urs moved upward through the first half of the second round at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open in Holzhausern.

Pranavi was 1-under through nine holes and 2-under through 27. She was T-24 even as the second round was far from over.

The other two Indian golfers were struggling as Tvesa Malik, a runner-up here in 2024, was even par through three holes in the second round and was T-68, while Diksha Dagar was 4-over through six. After a 71 on day one, Diksha is 4-over for the week and in danger of missing the cut.

Pranavi shot 1-under 70 on the first day, and on the second, she birdied the third and the fifth but bogeyed the ninth.

Shubhankar, Yuvraj struggle in Denmark

India’s Shubhankar Sharma was almost sure to miss the cut after a round of 2-over 74 on the first day of the Danish Golf Championship in Kerteminde.

Also struggling was Yuvraj Sandhu, whose even par 72 included three birdies, a closing double and a bogey earlier on. He was T-75.

Sharma had four birdies against six bogeys as his struggles in the season continued.

Frenchman Félix Mory matched the lowest round of his DP World Tour career and set a course record to lead after day one of the Danish Golf Championship.

The Frenchman posted a seven-under-par round of 65 at Great Northern to move one-shot clear of home favourite Lucas Bjerregaard and South African Brandon Stone.

Refaay, Sohayla emerge champs in Kolkata’s PSA Challenger Tour

Egypt’s Seif Refaay and Sohayla Hazem emerged as the men’s and women’s champions, respectively, in the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour in Kolkata on Friday.

Third seed Refaay rallied to defeat top seed compatriot Mohamed Gohar 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4, while Sohayla, also third seed, beat countrywoman and second seed Menna Walid 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8.

MRF Indian National Racing Challenge 2W: Petronas TVS racing duo tops grid in Super Sport 301-400cc qualifying

Petronas TVS Racing teammates Chiranth Vishwanath from Bengaluru and Pune’s Sarthak Chavan qualified for the top two spots on the grid in the premier Super Sport 301-400cc class to provide a rousing start to the inaugural round of the MRF Indian National Racing Challenge 2W at the Madras International Circuit on Friday.

Completing the front row behind Chiranth and Sarthak was Hyderabad’s Rahil Pillarisetty (RACR Castrol Power1). Incidentally, Sarthak had clocked the fastest time, but an infringement pushed him down to P2. Less than a second covered the three riders, thus promising thrilling battles in the double-header over the next two days.

Chennai’s Kamal Navas of Team Rockers Racing took the pole position in the Super Stock 301-400cc category ahead of the RACR Castrol Power1 duo of Allwin Xavier (Thrissur) and 16-year-old Kabilesh Rajini Krishnan (Chennai), the son of 11-time National champion Rajini Krishnan, with less than a second separating the trio.

Former National women’s champion, Ann Jennifer (Motul Sparks Racing) from Chennai, comfortably outpaced the field for pole position in the Super Stock 165cc Intermediate class, ahead of the Ipone Yakuza Racing India pair of Ajai Xavier M and Anand Kumar S.

Faruk Ali Sohtun (Motul Sparks Racing), who has made the long haul from East Khasi, Meghalaya, topped the qualifying session in the Stock 165cc (Novice) class as did Bengaluru’s Ashwin R in the Stock 301-400cc Novice category.

In a stunning result, Bengaluru’s Poojita Anil Kumar qualified for pole position in the women’s category of the Petronas TVS Racing One-Make Championship, riding the Apache RTR 200. In just her third competitive season, 18-year-old Poojita marked her improvement, taking P1 for Saturday’s race with over four seconds separating her from second-placed Dhrisha Nair from Pune.

Kamal, enjoying a fruitful day, finished in pole position in the Open (Apache RR 310), ahead of Rajender Beedani (Hyderabad) and AS James (Bengaluru).

Deepadhar leads East Zone Bridge Championship after four rounds

Deepadhar, represented by Badal Das, Joyrup Mullick, Prosenjit Manna and former Asian Games gold medallists Pranab Bardhan and Sibnath De Sarkar, led the team event with 65.22 victory points after four rounds on the opening day of the fifth East Zone Bridge Championship in Kolkata on Friday.

With four more league rounds remaining, Tornate were second with 62.80 VPs, followed by Challengers (58.87), Dr. Ram Niranjan Jhunjhunwala (58.46), Alok’s IV (55.12), Zenith (54.62), One Night Slam (51.83), Conquerors (50.95), We The Four (50.65) and Ekdalia (50.62).

Formidables, featuring Sagnik Roy and Sayantan Kushari, which recently won gold in the Under-31 Transnational World Bridge Championship in China, was placed 11th with 49.27 VPs.

The top 16 teams after the eight-round Swiss league will qualify for the knockout stage.

Around 300 players representing 50 teams from East Zone states, including Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, and host West Bengal, are taking part in the Bridge Federation of India Ranking Two event, which carries a total prize purse of ₹6 lakh.

Mizoram, Tamil Nadu register wins in Junior Women National Championship

Mizoram and Tamil Nadu secured wins in their respective Division B pool matches at the 16th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship in Pune on Friday.

Mizoram defeated Delhi 3-1 in a Pool A encounter, with Tepru Rina putting her side ahead in the 18th minute. Lalrawngbawli Esther doubled the lead in the 34th minute before Anjana Xaxa made it 3-0 in the 51st minute.

Delhi pulled one back through Dipika in the 58th minute, but Mizoram held on for a comfortable victory.

In another Division B match, Tamil Nadu registered a convincing 4-0 win over Goa. Gopika R opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Priyadarshini K made it 2-0 in the 18th minute. Swathi Sharma S extended the lead in the 53rd minute, while Thamaraiselvi P completed the scoring in the 58th minute.
