India’s hopes of reaching the semifinals of the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup were brought to an end by a goalless draw against Australia on Sunday.
That draw ensured that Salima Tete and Co. finished third in its second round pool behind co-host Netherlands and Australia. While it failed to advance to the last-four stage, the team will have another match, the fifth-place classification match, to play at the tournament.
When is India playing next at Women’s Hockey World Cup?
India finished third in Pool E as a result of that draw against Australia. As per the current format, the third-place teams in Pools E and F will face off in the fifth-place classification match.
Germany finished third in Pool F, behind Argentina and co-host Belgium, but ahead of Spain with three points. India will thus face Germany in the fifth-place classification match on August 27 at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen.
