“It’s an honour to join such a quality franchise,” Goswami, who hails from Kolkata, said — as quoted by PTI.
Goswami, who retired from international cricket in 2022, had an impressive career that lasted two decades, during which she claimed 355 wickets across all formats for India.
“Knight Riders have done so well in India and around the world, and to join TKR Women at the WCPL is a pleasure. Thanks to KKR management for thinking about me as a mentor and I’m really looking forward to this tournament.”
In her new position, she will provide guidance to the TKR Women’s team, which is captained by the talented all-rounder Deandra Dottin. Under Dottin’s leadership, TKR Women emerged victorious in the inaugural season of the WCPL in 2021, securing the championship title.
The Knight Riders management has bolstered their squad with the addition of international stars Jemimah Rodrigues, Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen and Shikha Pandey. This move comes as the team aims to secure their second WCPL title during the upcoming tournament in Trinidad & Tobago, which is set to commence in August.
CEO of the Knight Riders group, Venky Mysore, said: “Jhulan Goswami is an absolute legend of the game, and we are very happy to have her on board as the mentor of the TKR Women’s team. TKR is a very proud unit, with five championship titles between the men’s and women teams over the last 10 years.”
“We strongly believe that under Jhulan’s mentorship, the team will reach greater heights. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters to pick Jhulan’s brains and learn from her experiences to become better cricketers themselves. We would like to wish her all the best, and look forward to seeing her in the TKR setup soon.”
The TKR Women’s team is set to participate in four league matches as part of the tournament. They will face off against the Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors during the period of August 22-27.
The final is slated to take place on August 29 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy located in Tarouba.
