Indian men registered a second successive bronze medal finish at the World Squash Junior Team Championships in Ontario, Canada, on Thursday.
Fifth-seed Indian men lost 0-2 to the United States in the semifinals, a day after the women’s team went down to their American counterparts in the quarterfinals.
Gurveer Singh was edged by Brendan Tagliarini 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 7-11 in a close opening match, while No 1 string Aryaveer Dewan lost to Yaseen Shalaby 5-11, 7-11, 5-11.
This is the first time an Indian team has won back-to-back medals at the world junior team competition.

The inaugural season of the Challengers’ Cup is set to get underway on Saturday at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh.
The six-day tournament will feature five teams competing in a round-robin format with top two sides advancing for the final on August 6.
Designed as a new competitive platform, the Cup will feature the Leh Kings, Kargil Warriors, and Spiti Titans, alongside the Indian Army Ice Hockey Team and the Central Ice Hockey Team ITBP.

Young Guns Shine on Day 2 of Point Break Challenge 2026
The second day of the Point Break Challenge delivered rising drama at Mahabalipuram as Indian surfers battled through the draw at Stop 3 of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI) National Surf Series.
The day belonged to the next generation: Junior surfer Harish P powered through to the semifinals of the Men’s Open section, while in the women’s quarterfinals, Kamali Moorthy led the way with the top score of her round

Sandhya Vishnoi and Akshara Secure Silver Medals; Avanshika and Taniya Bag Bronze at U17 World Championships
India’s women wrestlers continued their strong showing at the 2026 U17 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, adding two silver medals and two bronze medals to the national haul across four podium bouts.
In the 46kg category, Sandhya Vishnoi put together an impressive tournament run to reach the championship final. Facing Japan’s Kokona Makino in the title clash, the Indian grappler fought hard but ultimately sustained a 2-13 defeat on points, finishing second on the podium to capture a silver medal.
India picked up a second silver medal in the 53kg weight division through Akshara. Cruising into the gold medal match, Akshara faced a tough challenge in USA’s Marlee J Solomon. The Indian wrestler succumbed to an 0-11 defeat against her American opponent, settling for a silver medal.
In the 61kg bronze medal play-off, Avanshika delivered a disciplined performance against Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Bakytnur. Displaying tactical control throughout the bout, Avanshika secured a 5-1 victory on points (VPO1) to claim a spot on the podium.
Adding to the day’s success, Taniya secured a hard-fought bronze medal in the 69kg category. Displaying excellent attacking intent, Taniya outclassed Poland’s Maja Wejchan with a commanding 12-2 victory to take home the bronze.

ATHLETICS
Tata Mumbai Marathon to be held on January 17, registrations begin
The registrations for the 22nd Tata Mumbai Marathon opened in Mumbai on Friday, with the race scheduled to be held on January 17 next year.
A total prize purse of USD 389,524 has been announced for the event, which is a World Athletics Gold Label race.
Registrations opened for both the physical and virtual events. Entries for the full marathon will remain open until November 8 or until all slots are filled.
Registrations for the half marathon will open on August 4 and close on August 18, or earlier if all slots are filled. Registrations for the Open 10K will begin on August 11 and close the same day, or once all slots are filled.
Registrations for the Dream Run will open on October 27 and close on November 2. Entries for the Senior Citizens’ Run and the Champions with Disability Run will be accepted from August 19 to November 5, or until all slots are filled.

Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2026: Rajasthan, Puducherry gain promotion to Division ‘B’
The fourth day of the 16th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2026 saw Goans Hockey, Le Puducherry Hockey and Hockey Gujarat win their respective matches in Division ‘C’ while Hockey Uttarakhand, Hockey Himachal and Hockey Chandigarh won in Division ‘B’ at the Coimbatore Hockey Ground on Friday.
Division ‘C’ concluded with Hockey Rajasthan and Le Puducherry Hockey winning promotion to Division ‘B’ next year.
