India defeated Belgium 4-3 in a shootout in the last quarterfinal of the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup in Chennai on Friday.
Sharda Nand Tiwari and captain Rohit were on the scoresheet for India as the contest ended 2-2 in regulation time. Goalkeeper Princedeep then made two saves in the shootout to seal the victory.
The home side will now face defending champion Germany in the last-four. Spain will take on Argentina in the other semifinal.
Belgium drew first blood when Cournez Massant Gaspard blasted the board with a reverse-stick hit in the 13th minute. India found the leveller just seconds before the third quarter ended as Rohit deflected a drag flick into the goal.
India pulled ahead in the 48th minute with Sharda firing into the bottom left corner from a Penalty Corner. However, Belgium stretched the contest into a shootout through Nathan Rogge’s deflection into the goal following a goalmouth melee.
