In what was the final passage of play, Navneet Kaur converted a penalty corner to help India escape with a 2-2 draw against Japan in a Pool B fixture in the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 on Saturday at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in China.
Japan took the lead as Hiroka Murayama scored in the 10th minute in the first quarter. Rutuja Dadaso Pisal equalised with less than 30 seconds left in the second quarter.
Japan struck in the final quarter, with less than three minutes to go in the match, through Chiko Fujibayashi’s penalty stroke to take the lead for the second time in the match.
India goalkeeper Bichu Devi was then substituted off, with head coach Harendra Singh opting for the extra outfield player in the closing moments of the match.
The trailing side won a penalty corner milliseconds before the full-time hooter went off and Navneet drilled the ball into the goal to keep India at the top of its group.
