Rathika Suthanthira Seelan stormed into her fourth PSA final at the NSW Open in Sydney with a straight-games win over New Zealand sixth seed Emma Merson.

Second seed Rathika, semifinalist at the North Coast Open last week, did one better, by beating Merson 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 in 32 minutes in the last-four stage.

The 24-year-old from Tamil Nadu, ranked 180 in the world, will meet Canadian top seed Iman Shaheen for the Challenger event title.

Meanwhile, in Springfield (US), fifth seed and world No 51 Veer Chotrani advanced to the semifinals of the St James Expression Open, a PSA Copper event, with a hard-fought 7-11, 12-10, 11-8, 5-11, 11-6 victory over Egyptian second seed and world No 36 Mohamed ElSherbini in the quarters.

India names record 111-member contingent for 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo

India will send its biggest-ever contingent comprising 111 members, including 73 athletes, for the Deaflympics scheduled to be held in Tokyo from November 15 to December 26.

Indian athletes will take part in 11 disciplines — athletics, badminton, golf, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling and tennis.

The Sports Ministry has approved the contingent at cost-to-government basis.

India had returned with a best-ever haul of 16 medals, including eight gold, one silver and seven bronze, to finish ninth among 77 participating nations in the last edition of the event in Brazil in May 2022.

Ishaan Madesh clean sweeps Senior Max category

Bengaluru teenager, Ishaan Madesh (Peregrine Racing) underlined his dominance with a rousing win in the Senior Max category to headline the fifth round of the MECO-FMSCI National Karting Championship 2025 (Rotax Max Classes) with SIDVIN Energy Engineering as the Presenting Sponsor and MRF Tyres at the Meco Kartopia circuit in Bengaluru.

Aramco China Championship: Pranavi best Indian at T31

ranavi Urs finished as the top Indian at Tied 31 after returning a card of 2-under 71 in the third and final round at the Aramco China Championship, here Saturday.

Diksha Dagar was the other Indian player to make the cut this week. Dagar carded 3-over 73 on the final day to finish the week T-56 on the leaderboard.

In her final round Pranavi made five birdies and two bogeys. Having begun the day with two bogeys in the first four holes she made four birdies in five holes to be two under for the front nine before she made more bogey followed by a birdie on the back nine.

Dagar played rounds of 72-70-76 for her total score of one under par. She started the final day with an early birdie on the third hole before consecutive bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes followed by bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes saw her have her only over par round of the week.

Sandhu lies T-36 at Singapore Open

Indian golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu climbed 14 places to be Tied-36 after carding a third consecutive under-par round at the Singapore Open on Friday.

Ajeetesh added a 2-under 70 to his earlier rounds of 70 and 69 here at the Singapore Island Country Club to take his three day total to 7-under 209. He is currently eight shots off the leader group at the USD 2 million event with one round to play.

Ajeetesh’s round comprised of five birdies in all, but three bogeys in between set him back from a stronger finish on the moving day.

Beighton Cup 2025: Odisha XI, Uttar Pradesh XI enter quarterfinal on opening day

Odisha XI beat B.N.R. Recreation Club 3-1 in the opening match of the Beighton Cup at the Vivekananda Hockey Stadium here on Saturday.

In the other match of the day, Uttar Pradesh XI edged past Naval Tata Hockey Academy 3-2 via penalty shootout after the two teams were locked 1-1 in the regulation period.

The two winning teams moved into the quarterfinal league.
