India’s FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026 came to an end after its 3-1 win over Germany in their classification match on Thursday.

It has secured its best finish at the competition since 1974, fifth, as a result of its victory in that match. In the first round, India finished second in its group that also featured China, South Africa, and England. It hammered South Africa 6-1, and earned draws with England and China.

In the second round, it was drawn alongside China, Netherlands, and Australia. Its qualification chances were hampered by a defeat to Netherlands before a goalless draw against Australia confirmed its exit and entrance to the fifth/sixth place playoff.
