India’s semifinal hopes at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 were dashed after the side lost 3-5 to Argentina in its final Pool-E fixture in the second round on Monday.
The Craig Fulton-coached needed to win by at least two goals, but fell short. While it failed to advance to the last-four stage, the team will have another match to play at the tournament.
When is India playing next at Men’s Hockey World Cup?
With the defeat to Argentina, India finished fourth in Pool E. As per the new format, the fourth-placed team in this pool will face the fourth-placed team in Pool F for the 7/8th place match.
In Pool F, Belgium finished fourth in a group which had the likes of Germany, Spain, and Australia.
Both India and Belgium will meet each other on Friday, August 28, at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium to determine which side finishes seventh and eighth in the final rankings.
